The Blood Brothers is an awesome live act formed by scorching-hot performances from all the band members. The high octane screaming in the singers´ voices is a trademark but also a distinct search for new sounds that came like fresh air into the saturated punk scene of the late nineties in Seattle.
The band was formed by two front men who sang and also played instruments from time to time.
Jordan Billie
A founding member of The Blood Brothers but also a vocalist for Head Wound City and Past Lives, bands he shared with other members of The Blood Brothers too. Jordan is an eclectic and multi-faceted singer who claims his preferred records come from very different scenes like the rap/Hip-Hop masters Cam´Ron and The Diplomats, but sharing the podium with The Rolling Stones´ Exile on Main Street and The Velvet Underground´s self-titled album as he explains in this video.
The live energy and the explosive screaming he had throughout his whole singing career was only eclipsed by his minimalistic and melodic singing he was able to achieve within the arch of their records.
For more insight about the early days of The Blood Brothers, a little politics and some more in-depth information about Billie, this Video Podcast by Josh Moriarty is very clear.
Johnny Whitney
He´s an amazing musician! This blonde energy supernova is an awesome singer who screams, jumps and really personifies the post-hardcore attitude in himself, but has also got a more melodic, softer side in which he can play piano and sing ballads. Born in 1981, he was also the co-founder of The Blood Brothers where he played piano, synth, vocals and also co-wrote many of the lyrics for the top tracks of the band. He also sang in other ground-breaking acts like Jaguar Love, The Vogue, Glowbug, Soiled Dovies and Neon Blonde. He´s a very eclectic and electronic-oriented musician who has even remixed songs for bands like Bloc Party and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs. His singing talents are very varied; he can really scream or sing a sweet falsetto to a classic like this video performing the song Georgia on the sidewalk. He also runs a clothing company along with his wife Amy Carlsen called Crystal City Clothing.
Mark Gajadhar
He is one of the most awesome drummers I have ever seen playing live. His style is completely unclassifiable.
Mark is a really loud drummer who can go from absolutely classic hard-core speed of light drumming to odd tempos and basically evertything in between.
His drumming was coupled with some studio wisdom that was critical to making some of the band´s records. His drumming was featured in many albums, his credits are pretty impressive. He also joined his mates of The Blood Brothers since the very beginning, but not only on that project but also on others like Past Lives and Neon Blondes.
Morgn Henderson
A tremendous bass player both live and in the studio. Morgan was the spine of the band along with Mark. Morgan is a really eclectic player who has contributed to a very large amount of records throughout his astonishing musical career. Can you imagine the bass player for the adrenalinic post hard-core band The Blood Brothers playing in Fleet Foxes? Well, it actually happened and in 2011, he played in Helplessness Blues.
Cody Votolato
Replacing original guitar player Devin Welch before the release of the first album, Cody became the signature guitar sound for this chaotic formation. It´s important not to confuse nihilism with lack of talent, this guy can really play! He was born in 1982 and joined The Blood Brothers in 1999, being only 17 years old. Since then, he played with Head Wound City and Jaguar Love with his fellow band mates and also recently teamed up with super group Cold Cave as a live guitar player. He´s often referred as a legend by the press and has been experimenting with electronic music for a while.
